The Ion Bomb is a special ability in the minigame Republic Defender. The Ion Bomb is unlocked after completing the second-to-last Geonosis Saga level.
The ion bomb is the most powerful special ability to use against shielded enemies, even surpassing the Speeder Bike Squad. The Ion Bomb creates a massive EMP explosion that covers the entire area, eliminating the shields of air and ground enemies, and temporarily paralyzing (and destroying weaker) non-shielded enemies. However, the Ion Bomb will deal zero physical damage unlike the speeder bike squad's ability to deal small amounts of damage. This makes the Ion Bomb a special ability only useful when dealing with large masses of shielded enemies.
